The new journals are now in reading room 1, just beside the new books table. Why not have a browse through these – there are plenty of interesting articles in them, which might help you with your assignments. You can read these journals in the Library and photocopy up to 10%, or one article, (whichever is greater) from each journal issue. Back issues can be found upstairs in the Periodicals room.
The Presbyterian Historical Society of Ireland will hold the following events in November.
Dr Janice Holmes will give a lecture entitled ‘Clerical families in 19th-century Ulster’ on Thursday 21 November at 8.00pm in McQuiston Memorial Presbyterian Church, Belfast. This will explore the domestic world of Ulster’s Presbyterian clergy.
The launch of Sketches of Irish Presbyterians by Rev Dr William Campbell, with an introductory and biographical essay by Very Rev Dr William Donald Patton, will take place on Thursday 28 November at 2.30pm in the Board Room, Assembly Buildings, Belfast.
Everyone will be made very welcome to both events.
This week, 7-12 October, is national Libraries Week. The theme is Celebrating libraries in a digital world. To remind you of all the digital resources you can access through the Gamble Library a pop-up exhibition is now on in the Library. Everyone is welcome to view the exhibition. Why not take a look at the exhibition and then make use of the digital resources which are available as part of your Library membership? #librariesweek
Due to training and staff meetings on the mornings of Monday 10th (from 09:30) and Tuesday 11th (from 11:00) June Library staff will not be available. It will not be possible to consult materials from the rare books room during these mornings. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.
The forthcoming Presbyterian Historical Society of Ireland Robert Allen Memorial lecture entitled, ‘Angels who have lost their way: Presbyterians and rescue and reform work for women in Belfast in the 19th and 20th centuries’ will take place on Thursday 9 May at 8.00pm in Union Theological College. Dr Leanne McCormick will examine the role of the Presbyterian Church in preventative and reform work with prostitutes and women morally at risk, as well as investigating the changing position of women within Belfast. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be provided.

The forthcoming Presbyterian Historical Society of Ireland lecture entitled, ‘Presbyterian responses to the Second World War: Challenges and Contexts,’ will take place on Thursday 21st March at 8pm in Windsor Presbyterian Church. Matthew Houston will explore the interpretations of the war offered by leaders within the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. All are welcome to attend this event.
